The Beaufort County School District has been honored with a 2014 Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Governor’s Award for the Arts. Recognized under the “Arts in Education” category, the award honors outstanding achievements and contributions to the arts in South Carolina.
“South Carolina’s quality of life, education and economy are enhanced tremendously by those who dedicate their work and lives to the arts,” said S.C. Arts Commission Chairman Dr. Sarah Lynn Hayes. “The Verner Awards recognize that service of commitment and passion. We are honored again this year to present the awards to a most worthy group of organizations and individuals. We are grateful for their contributions to our state.”
At present, three schools in the Beaufort County District are designated ARts in Basic Curriculum sites with another school expected to be added soon.
