It’s Back to School time throughout Beaufort County, with this year marking a particularly exciting fall with the opening of a new high school in Bluffton, SC! Locals have watched our small town grow through the years with the addition of new commercial buildings, new parkways and flyovers, and MANY new home communities.
It’s always neat to talk to people who lived here “before” – back when the only high school that served Bluffton students was on Hilton Head Island. That is, until 2004, the inaugural year of the Bluffton Bobcats. Fast forward just 12 years later, a second high school for this tight knit Lowcountry community is set to open August 15th born from outstanding population growth, placing Bluffton as the fastest growing muicipality in South Carolina between 2001 and 2010 and again topping the charts on a national scale, between 2013 and 2014.
After two years of construction, anticipation, community meetings and concerns about student athletics (namely football), the question still remains – will the two schools forge a community or will a rivalry be born?
The May River Sharks will be led by former H.E. McKracken middle school principal, Todd Bornscheuer. A state-of-the-art, 240,000 square feet, fully equipped campus with a dedicated career and vocational center serving 9th to 12th grades. The school is expected to have nearly 1000 students attending this fall.
Upcoming Events – Community Tailgate Party Friday, Aug 5th, 2016 from 4 – 6 pm followed by Football Scrimmage beginning at 6 pm
