Forest Beach – An Ocean Community

by Chip Collins

With covenants established back in the 1950’s, this ocean–oriented community is Hilton Head’s original, premiere,”un–plantation” beach.   With certain, but limited restrictions in place, this extensive residential and commercial section on the south end of the island is particularly appealing to residents who fully embrace a casual, laissez-faire, beach lifestyle.

With residents as eclectic as the assortment of architectural style found in homes throughout the neighborhood, this full–bodied community plays host to primary residences, second homes, as well as, vacation and long-term rental properties.  No matter the property location, the beach is never too far away…and Coligny plaza, with its wide variety of restaurants, shops, and entertainment serves as an outstanding, unofficial town center for the neighborhood as well as the island over all.

Originally designed with sand–based roads, this charming neighborhood has always served as the basis of true island–living.  To a great extent, it remains singularly as such today.

If you haven’t taken the time to drive, run, or bike up and down the bird and plant–named streets of this wonderful section of the island, do yourself a favor and take a look… You might just fall in love with the island all over again!
