Local Event: The 28th Hilton Head Island Firecracker 5000

July 4th doesn’t have to be all about the fireworks and delicious meals being grilled out back. Hilton Head Island likes to live the holiday with an assortment of activities, and this year you can enjoy the 28th Hilton Head Firecracker 5000 (5k) race at Jarvis Creek Park.

Starting at 8 a.m., hundreds of local residents and out-of-town visitors will be showing their spirit and testing their stamina in one of the Island’s largest races. If you’ve been wanting to break the mold of lounging about and get active within the community, this is one event you and the family can enjoy.

    Firecracker 5000

After the main race, there will be the Firecracker Children’s Fun Run, where every child receives a prize for participating. Children 8 years and under will race against their friends, which features 3 different heats.

    • Ages 3 and under will run 25 yards (starts at 9 a.m.)
    • Ages 4-5 will run 50 yards (starts at 9:05 a.m.)
    • Ages 8 and under will run 100 yards (10:10 a.m.)

    Additional Festivities

In addition to the main event, the Firecracker 5000 will be hosting live music from Chris Jones, a Craft Beer Garden, ice cold refreshments, door prices, fresh fruit, and a Covert Aire CooZzone. Proceeds from the race will be donated to local charities, including the Hilton Head Rotary Club, and Hilton Head High School Cross Country Team.

Post Race Beer Garden (cash only)

After the race, runners have the option of enjoying an ice-cold craft or domestic beer in the new Craft Beer Garden. The garden will feature more than 20 different beers and prices run as follows: Domestic Beer $3 & Craft Beer $4

    Arrive Early for the Race

The Firecracker starts at 8 a.m. so we advise you to get to Jarvis Creek Park early. There will be free parking at the Hilton Head High School Campus. It’s advised to allow at least 30-45 minutes to park and walk to the park.
