Live Life on the Water – Summertime in a Coastal Town

by Ashley Smith

This week marks the first official week of Summer, and the Lowcountry is buzzing with activity. From live music to pub crawls and fireworks – you could fill your calendar daily with something to do throughout Hilton Head Island and Bluffton, SC! For those like me, who enjoy the outdoors, living close to the water, and spending all my free time on it, (around it and in it) is key during these long summer days! That’s why we’re all here right? Because we have a passion for boating, beaching and the unique dynamic of living in a coastal town (some might say it’s the golf, but we all know it’s the water). We’ve seen it year over year, met “locals” with the same story ‘We vacationed here for years and always knew we wanted to live here.’

Many months of the year locals and vacationers are able to enjoy the unique offering of the Hilton Head area but summertime is by far the best! Entertainment can be found stretching up and down the coastline. Some traditions have gone on for years, like Gregg Russell, who’s been performing under the Old Liberty Oak in Sea Pines Harbour Town for 40 years! Shelter Cove Park has live, local artists a couple nights a week along with fireworks every Tuesday plus the addition of a weekly pub crawl this summer. Further in the mainland you can venture out to Palmetto Bluff’s Summer Concert Series or take a stroll down the rapidly growing area of Old Town Bluffton. Or maybe you set your sights on Daufuskie for as a great casual weekend spot.
